2022.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>General principles<br \/>\nLibrary tech is the application and harnessing of available, affordable technology<br \/>\nto library processes in conducting the library\u2019s work, access to library materials,<br \/>\nand the assistance to library and community members in utilizing and furthering of<br \/>\npersonal and social goals through technological means.<br \/>\nThis is a fundamental library service.<br \/>\nThe full application of library technology requires sufficient budget, sufficient<br \/>\nemphasis on maintenance and development, as well as sufficient library knowledge<br \/>\nin handling library and public tech issues as well as future-tech.<br \/>\n1-Year Plan<br \/>\nReview and evaluate this document annually.<br \/>\nReview and evaluate operative library technology annually.<br \/>\nReview library off-site products and services for greater access and affordability.<br \/>\n2-Year Plan<br \/>\nExplore a cost\/benefit analysis of an RFID installation, given the inherent<br \/>\nweaknesses of the current inventory\/check-in\/check-out systems.<br \/>\nAnalyze the efficacy of a library self-checkout circulation station, including public<br \/>\ncomfort and acceptance of such a system.<br \/>\nInstall and maintain a security camera library system.<br \/>\nRed Feather Mountain Library District Technology Plan December 14, 2022 Page 2<br \/>\nConsider an internet-access backup system<br \/>\nProvide for staff development in resources and assistance for patrons with non-<br \/>\nlibrary held tech devices.<br \/>\nReview the cost\/benefit analysis of automated and non-automated locker and self-<br \/>\ndispensary off-site devices.<br \/>\nPurchase and utilize wireless monitoring tools to determine wireless dead zones or<br \/>\nlimited-access signal both within and without of the library<br \/>\nReview extending outside wireless in 4 directions and increasing the length of<br \/>\nsignal<br \/>\nContinue to review for efficiency, appropriateness to the job to be done, on an \u2018as-<br \/>\nneed\u2019 basis and replace library equipment as required.<br \/>\nEnsure that library tech funding remains sufficient to handle current needs,<br \/>\nanticipated needs, and unanticipated opportunities.<br \/>\nReview library off-site products and services for greater access and affordability.<br \/>\n5-Year Plan<br \/>\nTechnologically support and facilitate library expansion plans.<br \/>\nEvaluate library off-site tech satellite facilities and placement.<br \/>\nReview replacement of the library\u2019s interior wiring system.<br \/>\nReview property and non-property expansion of the library\u2019s wireless system<br \/>\nReview continued relations with current library vendors as contracts expire.<br \/>\nContinue to review for efficiency, appropriateness to the job to be done, on an \u2018as-<br \/>\nneed\u2019 basis and replace library equipment as required.<br \/>\nEnsure that library funding remains sufficient to handle current needs, anticipated<br \/>\nneeds, and unanticipated tech opportunities.<br \/>\nReview library off-site products and services for greater access and District viability,<br \/>\npracticality, need and affordability.<br \/>\nContinue to review comment and discussion from all library stakeholders: the<br \/>\npublic, community, staff and volunteers and board of trustees.<br \/>\nTech budgeting should be especially scrutinized given the importance of the role<br \/>\nthat tech serves in furthering the mission and purpose of the library.<br \/>\nStaff, volunteer, and public tech education continue to be developed, enhanced and<br \/>\nmade available.<br \/>\nContinue to review for efficiency, appropriateness to the job to be done, on an
