Red Feather Lakes Community Library Mission Statement<br \/>\nRed Feather Lakes Community Library provides a welcoming environment with<br \/>\nresources and programming for learning, enrichment, development for all ages and all<br \/>\nusers. We are actively engaged in community needs and positive collaboration.<br \/>\n2. Collection Management Goals &amp; Objectives<br \/>\na. The goals of Red Feather Lakes Community Library regarding collection<br \/>\nmanagement are:<br \/>\n\u25cf To select and provide materials on the basis of quality, significance,<br \/>\nvalidity, timeliness, interest, and use for Red Feather Mountain Library<br \/>\nDistrict residents<br \/>\n\u25cf To provide materials based on both the actual and potential interests and<br \/>\nneeds of the community<br \/>\n\u25cf To assist both formal study and the encouragement of informal learning<br \/>\n\u25cf To provide access to a variety of options on matters of current interest<br \/>\nb. The following objectives have been adopted in order for Red Feather Lakes<br \/>\nCommunity Library to meet the goals set forth in this Policy:<br \/>\n\u25cf Serve the entire population of the District, both actual and potential, by<br \/>\nobtaining, organizing, and providing free access to information in a variety<br \/>\nof formats. Materials may be available in and through the Library or<br \/>\navailable online through interlibrary loan via library cooperative or<br \/>\ncommercial arrangements.<br \/>\n\u25cf Evaluate new items and formats as they become available in order to<br \/>\nkeep information available to the community up-to-date and integrate them<br \/>\nas demand warrants and budget allows.<br \/>\n3. General Principles Guiding Collection Management<br \/>\na. Red Feather Lakes Community Library subscribes to the material selection<br \/>\nprinciples recommended by the American Library Association\u2019s (ALA) Library Bill<br \/>\nRed Feather Mountain Library District Collection Management Policy Page 3<br \/>\nof Rights (Appendix A), Freedom to Read (Appendix B), and Freedom to View<br \/>\nStatements along with the ALA Code of Ethics (Appendix C).<br \/>\nb. Within the above mentioned principles, the Library will provide a wide range of<br \/>\nmaterials and material formats for users of all ages, all educational levels, all<br \/>\nlevels of interest or skill, and all socio-economic backgrounds. These guidelines<br \/>\nwere created with users as the main focus. Emphasis is given as well for local<br \/>\nand Colorado history, specific individual requests, and items of perceived interest<br \/>\nor impact within the community.<br \/>\n4. Responsibility for Selection<br \/>\nThe ultimate responsibility for the selection of materials for the Library is held by the<br \/>\nLibrary Director. The quantity of materials purchased is based on the current year\u2019s<br \/>\ncollection and budget as directed by the Red Feather Mountain Library District Board of<br \/>\nTrustees.<br \/>\n5. Selection<br \/>\na. The Red Feather Lakes Community Library selects materials in accordance with<br \/>\nguidelines set forth by the American Library Association. Links to such guidelines<br \/>\ncan be found in References (section 9) of this Policy.<br \/>\nb. The Library does not censor or sanction particular beliefs or views.<br \/>\nc. Selection principles take into account inclusive not exclusive ideas, diverse<br \/>\nopinion, and tolerance of different points of view.<br \/>\nd. The selection of materials is governed by the Library\u2019s mission statement, the<br \/>\npresent and future needs of the community, collaboration with other libraries<br \/>\nwithin the state of Colorado and their catalogs, and the limitations of space and<br \/>\nbudget within the Library.<br \/>\ne. The Library Director may also consider suggestions from Library staff members<br \/>\nand patrons for the collection.<br \/>\n6. Responsibility for Individual Material Choices<br \/>\na. Adults: The Library will not restrict, monitor, or pass judgment on any items that a<br \/>\npatron checks out. Library employees will maintain the privacy of all patrons and<br \/>\nRed Feather Mountain Library District Collection Management Policy Page 4<br \/>\nwill not share any information about items checked out to that patron to anyone<br \/>\nother than that individual patron.<br \/>\nb. Minors: A minor is anyone under 18 years of age. Responsibility for a minor\u2019s<br \/>\nreading rests solely with the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of the minor, not with<br \/>\nthe Library. Information on items checked out to a minor may only be shared with<br \/>\na parent or legal guardian.<br \/>\nc. Deselection of Materials<br \/>\nDeselection of Library materials is an integral part of maintaining a viable, up-to-date,<br \/>\nand useful collection that caters to the community. Further information on deselection<br \/>\ncan be found at the Red Feather Mountain Library Deselection of Materials Policy.<br \/>\n8. Reconsideration of Materials<br \/>\nPatrons have the opportunity to request reconsideration of items within the Library\u2019s<br \/>\ncollection via the Library\u2019s Steps in Reconsiderations Procedure.<br \/>\n9. References<br \/>\nWithin this policy is mention of the material selection principles of the American Library<br \/>\nAssociation.
