Weeding Policy

The collection receives ongoing review to maintain its relevancy and physical condition, as well as accommodate shelf space. Materials to be weeded will fall under at least one of the following criteria:

  • Condition
  • Relevance to community needs
  • Information: accurate, timely, up to date
  • Number of copies in the collection across all formats
  • Circulation statistics
  • Shelf space
  • Availability elsewhere, including other libraries, online or via interlibrary loan
  • Utilize the most recent library weeding practices such as MUSTIE (misleading, ugly, superseded, trivial, irrelevant, or obtained elsewhere) or CREW (continuous review, evaluation, and weeding)

Materials in good condition will be offered to other local libraries for use in their collection. Materials with outdated and/or incorrect information will be destroyed. All materials left will be given away at the Lincoln County Fair. Materials being given away will have the barcode removed or covered by a “Supporting Literacy” sticker.
