Lincoln County Bookmobile enriches lives by developing and presenting programs that meet the educational, informational, and cultural needs of the community. Programming is an integral component of library service that:
- Expands the bookmobile’s role as a social connector
- Introduces patrons and non-users to library and community resources
- Creates opportunities for individuals to collaborate, innovate, inspire one another, and generate content
- Provides opportunities for lifelong learning and literacy
- Expands visibility and fosters community understanding of the bookmobile and library services
- Reflects and responds to diversity in our community
1. Programs are a means through which the public can share experiences, appreciate special interests, and exchange information. Lincoln County Bookmobile programs are open to the general public; however, some programs may have age-specific audiences. Age specifications will be included in such a programs’ marketing efforts.
2. Programs are offered free of charge to all patrons regardless of age, race, religion, familial beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity, or political affiliation. The Lincoln County Bookmobile’s recognition of varied backgrounds and needs of our community provides access to information and ideas extends to programming and the Lincoln County Bookmobile does not discriminate through its programming.
3. Lincoln County Bookmobile participation in a program does not constitute or imply an endorsement of its policies, beliefs, or subject matter by any personnel or by the organization. The Lincoln County Bookmobile promotes the free and open exchange of ideas; the bookmobile does not attempt to control or be responsible for the content of programs that it does not initiate.
The Lincoln County Bookmobile uses the following criteria in making decision about program topics, speakers, and accompanying resources:
- Relation to the bookmobile mission, service goals, collections, resources, and exhibits
- Community needs and interests
- Availability of program space
- Treatment of content for intended audience
- Presentation quality as determined from references and/or experience
- Presenter background/qualifications in content area
- Budget
- Relevance to community interests and issues
- Historical or educational significance
- Connection to other community programs, exhibitions, or events
- Intended experiences for targeted audiences
- Intent to foster creativity, ingenuity, and entrepreneurship
- Staffing resources
- Diversity of current offering
- National observances and commemorative months
Guidelines for programming
1. Lincoln County Bookmobile will make every attempt to accommodate all who wish to attend a program. However, when safety or the success of a program requires it, the number attending may be limited by either a first-come, first served basis or with advanced registration to meet the needs of the program venue.
2. The Lincoln County Bookmobile draws upon other community resources in developing programs and actively works with other community agencies, organizations, educational and cultural institutions, and individuals to develop and present co-sponsored public programs.
3.The Lincoln County Bookmobile may enlist professional performers and presenters that reflect specialized or unique expertise for programs. Performers and presenters will not be excluded from consideration because of their origin, background, or views, or because of potential controversy.
4. Staff who present programs do so as part as their job and will not be paid as a professional performer or presenter.
5. The Lincoln County Bookmobile may permit the sale of books written by speakers or recordings by performers in conjunction with a bookmobile sponsored program. Staff must approve any plans to sell such items in advance of the program.
6. Lincoln County Bookmobile will not offer programs that support or oppose any political candidate, ballot measure or specific religious convictions.
7. Medical, legal, and tax-related programs hosted by the bookmobile will be general in nature and not diagnostic or individually specific.
8. When the Lincoln County Bookmobile holds grant-funded or partially grant-funded programs, staff will adhere to the dictates and rules of the grant.
9. Performers and musicians who use music, movies, or other copyrighted materials in their program hosted by the bookmobile should only use material for which they have permission to use. The Lincoln County Bookmobile expects that performers and musicians will obtain any necessary copyright permission and/or license for any non-original works used for any bookmobile event. This includes works performed live and/or use of recorded music.
10. Staff may require program attendees to sign a waiver form to participate in programs, such as movement activities, makerspace programs, and cooking.
11. The Lincoln County Bookmobile handles concerns, questions, or complaints about bookmobile-initiated programs according to the same written policies and procedures that govern reconsiderations of other bookmobile resources.
