The renovated and expanded library building adds equipment that increases the electrical load. A new electrical HVAC system, with added coverage of the new second floor\u2019s square footage, and an elevator require an upgrade from single phase power to 3 phase power. Current construction work is progressing all of these components.<\/p>\n

Single phase power is adequate for most residential and business commercial needs, mainly lighting, heating and cooling, and computers. The 3 phase power offers up to 480 volts and uniform frequency to meet the needs of systems with a larger power draw. Liken the effect to the difference between one strand versus three twined in rope; the latter provides much more strength. The 3 phase system provides constant power, whereas single phase provides pulsating power.<\/p>\n

In order to upgrade, a new transformer has been set by Sangre de Cristo Electric Association. The transformer requires new lines both to its location and from it to the library building. SDCEA crews trenched and laid conduit at the far edge of the parking lot to a new connection on Linderman Ave. Three new utility poles route existing 3 phase power on Cottonwood Ave near Eddyline Taphouse to the Library\u2019s property. \u00a0Wire has been run, and the unit is ready for activation once electrical work at the Library is ready.<\/p>\n

A web of silver-colored conduit has been multiplying along the ceilings and tendrils now snake down to new electrical boxes along the wall frames. Legacy Electric has been onsite nearly every day readying the expanded power. Plugged-in library users will have ample supply. Patriot Sons Mechanical has completed new and improved ductwork throughout the first floor; cool and warm air will travel along internally insulated lines, sealed with pookie paste at all joints. Good news for families and staff, a new exhaust fan for the children\u2019s room will provide relief in dirty diaper moments.<\/p>\n

Solar array installation coordination is underway with locally-owned Colorado Mountain Solar. Generating power onsite will greatly offset the increased electrical demand.<\/p>\n

The electrification cost of the project totals over $800,000.
